CRDF Global Convenes International Experts to Share Latest Research on African Swine FeverĀ

CRDF Global organized the 2025 Scientific Meeting of the Global African Swine Fever Research Alliance (GARA) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in Rome, Italy from April 29-30, 2025.
The biennial GARA Scientific Meeting brought together over 160 experts from 42 countries to discuss the latest research and scientific advancements in African Swine Fever (ASF) prevention, detection, and control. Attendees at the three-day conference heard cutting-edge research updates on ASF epidemiology, virology, diagnostics, immunology, and vaccines from over 40 oral presenters and nearly 70 poster presenters.
ASF is a significant agricultural threat to the world food supply. According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), ASF has been detected in over 60 countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas since January 2022, resulting in over 2 million animal losses. Twelve of these countries detected their first case of ASF.1 Outbreaks of ASF cause significant economic losses to farmers and producers due to the fatality of the disease and outbreak control measures. With the increasing globalization of the worldās food system, ASF has the potential to disrupt the global pork supply, threatening food security.
CRDF Global supports GARA through end-to-end conference coordination, communication management, and travel & logistics coordination to bring together leading global experts on ASF to share latest research, analyze knowledge gaps, and identify research priorities, increasing international collaboration to control this devastating disease.
