Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV) Gap Analysis Workshop

March 18-20, 2025

About the Workshop

From March 18 – 20, 2025, the USDA National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (USDA NBAF) will host a Gap Analysis Workshop on Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV).  This workshop will be held at the Pullman in Luang Prabang, Laos.

The JEV Gap Analysis Workshop will bring together leading scientists from around the world to discuss current research on JEV, with a focus on identifying knowledge gaps. The workshop will identify critical knowledge and research gaps related to JEV in order to contribute to ongoing research advancement in the field. Research sections include insect vectors and animal hosts, vaccinations, virus dynamics, diagnostics, and epidemiology. Within each section, three scenarios will be discussed: pre-outbreak preparation, outbreak response, and endemic transmission.

Participants will:

  • Engage in two full days of presentations and discussions (March 18-19)
  • Participate in an interactive session dedicated to compiling the results of the workshop and writing a Gap Analysis Report (March 20)
  • Network with JEV experts during social events and other networking opportunities throughout the program.
