The CRDF Global Virtual Science Library program provided two regional workshops in Algeria from January 30 to February 2 for approximately 300 faculty and students at universities in Oran and Constantine. Charles Dunlap (Associate Program Director) and Cristina Atencio (Associate Program Manager) coordinated with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to implement the workshops on the use of the Maghreb VSL Algeria portal and the writing and publishing of peer-reviewed papers.
The workshops also announced the addition of more than ten million full-text articles to the MVSL Algeria site, more than doubling the content of the site since it was launched in January 2011. University librarians have pledged to use the VSL Program’s French-language training materials to provide ongoing workshops for students and faculty, and CERIST, the technical information center of the Ministry, has offered to cost-share on future workshops to further promote use of the MVSL Algeria site as a primary tool for research and entrepreneurship in Algeria. CERIST has also agreed to pay to sustain MVSL Algeria beginning this year.
